External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar criticized "unilateral" connectivity initiatives during his address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave in Islamabad on October 16, 2024. Referring to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Jaishankar also condemned the "three evils" of cross-border terrorism, extremism, and separatism that hinder regional ties. Meanwhile, Pakistan and China jointly raised the Kashmir issue during the summit. China called it a "leftover issue from history" that requires resolution, reflecting a united stance on the contentious matter.
