An FIR filed by her husband accuses armed militants from the Imphal Valley of "brutally raping" her. That night, the attackers reportedly looted her house and set 17 other homes ablaze in Zairwan village. Due to her charred remains, the autopsy at Assam's Silchar Medical College could not confirm rape, as a vaginal smear could not be collected.
