The strike caused a massive fire at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Rostov, a frequent target since the war began. Russian air defenses managed to shoot down 84 drones, including 36 over the Rostov region. Despite the interception, Ukrainian missiles triggered the fire, which burned for hours before being extinguished on December 19. Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed the attack, which injured at least one person. Ukraine's continued targeting of Russia's oil infrastructure aims to disrupt its war economy, weakening Russian war efforts.
