The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, near Ambeli village under Kutru police station, as the security personnel were returning from an anti-Naxalite operation. Their vehicle, a Scorpio, was blown up by an improvised explosive device (IED). This attack marks the largest strike on security forces by Naxalites in the past two years. The operation had been ongoing since January 3, targeting Naxal presence in the region. Naxal militants have historically used IEDs to target security forces, especially when returning from operations.
