Using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the team found dimethyl sulphide (DMS), a gas produced on Earth only by living organisms. The discovery, while not definitive, could be the strongest biosignature ever found. Dr Madhusudhan, now at the University of Cambridge, believes humanity may confirm alien life within two years if further evidence supports the findings.
