Pilgrims arrive at the Arafat mount where prophet Mohammad delivered his last speech and will spend the day there till sunset, and then they move to Muzdalifah, which is an open, flat area located between Mina and Arafat, where pilgrims spend the night. They gather pebbles for the stoning of the pillars in Mina. This one of the spiritual highlights of the Hajj for many, standing on the plain of Arafat, praising God, pleading for forgiveness and make supplications. Many raise their hands in worship with tears streaming down their faces
Muslim pilgrims from around the world officially start the Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. All Muslims are required to make Hajj at least once in their lives if they are physically and financially able to do so. Pilgrims perform the Hajj rituals over several days. The Hajj is one of the largest religious gatherings on earth. On Wednesday Pilgrims will move from Mecca to Mina, marking the first day of pilgrimage.
Saudi Arabia has begun annual Hajj pilgrimage on June 4 after observatories confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the kingdom’s Supreme Court in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
Saudi Hajj Minister Tawfiq al-Rabiah said more than one million pilgrims from around the world had already arrived in the country.
