Now PlayingManila, Philippines – Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero delivered a strong clarification amid public confusion over the Senate impeachment court’s decision to return the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives.
Contrary to claims made by some senators, Escudero emphasized that jurisdiction was not lost, citing Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s motion which explicitly states that the case was neither dismissed nor terminated. In a pointed message, Escudero appealed to his five colleagues—Senators Pimentel, Hontiveros, Poe, Binay, and Gatchalian—to revisit the language of the ruling.
The impeachment court, despite sending the articles back, issued a writ of summons to Duterte, giving her 10 non-extendible days to respond—a move Escudero says reaffirms jurisdiction.
