Senate President Francis Escudero, who was sworn in as the presiding officer of the impeachment court on Monday night, oversaw the proceedings.
MANILA, Philippines—The Senate President took his oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The impeachment proceedings against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte were rescheduled. From the initial schedule of June 2, the reading of the articles of impeachment by the House of Representatives’ prosecution team was moved to June 11.
According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the Senate and the House will prioritize their legislative agenda. He stressed that they still have several measures to pass before the 19th Congress adjourns.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte would surely cross into the 20th Congress. “Why? What is the controversy? It is very clear that it will. Because there is no way that even if they start the trial now, that they will finish it before the new Senators come in,” Marcos told reporters.
“So well… again, the senators will decide,” he added.
On Monday night, Senate President Francis Escudero took his oath as presiding officer of the impeachment court in the trial of the Vice President. The Senate also adopted Senator Joel Villanueva's motion that the rest of the senators take their oaths as senator-judges in the impeachment trial at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
