3:01Now PlayingBrazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday strongly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to impose new tariffs on Brazilian exports, calling the move “unacceptable blackmail.” In a nationally broadcast address, Lula said Brazil had made efforts to resolve trade issues diplomatically, including a formal proposal submitted in May, but was instead met with coercive tactics and misinformation. He accused Washington of using trade policy to interfere with Brazil’s internal affairs, particularly over the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Lula also denounced Brazilian politicians who support the U.S. stance, labeling them “traitors,” and insisted that Brazil would defend its sovereignty and economic interests.
