Aug 11, 20253:41:43Now PlayingOn Sunday, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Balikesir province in northwestern Turkey, centered in Sindirgi, approximately 200 kilometers from Istanbul. The quake, at a depth of 6.8 miles, resulted in one fatality, 29 injuries, and the collapse of 16 buildings, including homes in Golcuk and a mosque minaret in Sindirgi. Rescue operations successfully extracted five people from the rubble, though an 81-year-old victim later died. Four of the injured required hospital care, but none are critical. Aftershocks, the largest at 4.6, prompted warnings to avoid damaged structures. President Erdogan and local officials are coordinating relief efforts to support affected communities in this seismically active region along major fault lines.
