Russian President Vladimir Putin used his address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin to blame the West for the crisis in Ukraine and to call for a new global order led by the Eurasian bloc. Putin said the 2014 events in Kyiv were a “coup d’état supported by the West” and warned NATO expansion had posed a direct threat to Russia’s security. He described the SCO as a “powerful locomotive of global development” and urged greater use of national currencies, new payment systems, and the creation of an SCO investment bank to shield members from Western sanctions. The speech highlighted Moscow’s alignment with Beijing and other Eurasian partners against what Putin called outdated Euro-Atlantic models.
