VATICAN CITY - Pope Leo canonises Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, an Italian teenager who used his computer skills to spread the Catholic faith. Acutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 aged 15, will become the first saint from the millennial generation. The mass will be followed by Angelus prayers. Pope Leo XIV is set to preside over the canonization of Carlo Acutis, who will become the first millennial saint on Sunday, Sept. 7. Acutis died of leukemia nearly two decades ago at just 15 years old. Years later, people have described miracles after praying to him and he has gained global popularity.
The Sept. 7 canonizations of Blesseds Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati will be a crucial step in a decades-long effort to attract people to the Catholic faith through young, holy patrons.
