Protests led by Nepal’s Gen Z youth have erupted on the streets of Kathmandu after the government announced restrictions on unregistered social media platforms. Nepal’s Gen Z has erupted into violent clashes outside Parliament, as youth took to the streets against a sweeping social media ban and alleged government corruption. Authorities opened fire during confrontations in New Baneshwor, tragically killing 6 protesters and injuring 80 others, according to updated reports.
Demonstrators, many in school uniforms and carrying books, demanded free speech and accountability. In response, police used tear gas, water cannons, and batons, prompting a citywide curfew to restore order. The protests reflect deep frustration with censorship and authoritarian drift in Nepal.
