Former NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg revealed he rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s 2022 request to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine, warning it could have sparked a direct NATO–Russia war. Stoltenberg called the Kyiv bunker plea one of his most painful moments, admitting NATO’s aid after Crimea was “too little, too late.” He also lamented the alliance’s strategic hesitations, comparing them to Afghanistan’s chaotic withdrawal, which he said emboldened adversaries like Russia.
