Delhi’s air quality deteriorated to the ‘severe’ category on Tuesday as dense fog disrupted air and rail traffic across the capital. Calm winds overnight pushed the 24-hour average AQI to 416 by 9am, up from 373 a day earlier. Visibility dropped to 50 metres at Palam and Safdarjung, delaying over 200 flights at IGI airport and several trains. On Monday, more than 500 flights and at least 30 trains were delayed amid similar conditions, with fog intensifying sharply in the early morning hours, according to IMD officials.
