NORAD detected five Russian planes, including Tu-95 bombers, Su-35 fighters and an A-50 early warning aircraft, operating inside the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone on February 19. NORAD deployed F-16s, F-35s, refuelling tankers and an E-3 aircraft, escorting the planes until they exited the ADIZ. Officials said the aircraft remained in international airspace and posed no immediate threat, calling the activity routine. NATO has warned of expanding Russian and Chinese patrols in the Arctic.
