3:03Now PlayingSecretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez said on Thursday that naval escorts were "not a sustainable solution" around the Strait of Hormuz. The United Nations’ shipping agency has called for a humanitarian corridor to evacuate 3,000 vessels and 20,000 seafarers trapped by the Iran war. The IMO said Thursday it would work on a framework for a "safe maritime corridor" to let vessels leave the area around the Strait of Hormuz.
After a crisis meeting in London, the IMO’s governing council condemned Tehran’s "egregious attacks" on the land and waters of its neighbours. It also called on member states to ensure stranded seafarers receive water, food, fuel and supplies.
