3:29Now PlayingHeavy rainfall has triggered flash flooding in Balochistan, southwestern Pakistan, on Thursday, leading to the collapse of what residents described as a historic bridge and leaving families stranded.
Footage shows floodwaters flowing between homes, a submerged vehicle, and the damaged Tarkha Bridge, while cars attempt to navigate waterlogged roads.
Naqib, a resident of Gulistan, said the rains caused severe damage, with strong torrents washing away the Tarkha Bridge and cutting off key routes.
"We request the government to come here and assess the damage to bridges and roads. People are facing serious difficulties, and it is still raining. All routes are blocked, and there is a shortage of food," he said.
Agha Muhammed, another resident, said parts of the village had been washed away, leaving the area isolated, and called for urgent assistance for stranded residents.
"The village has suffered heavy damage, and parts of it have been washed away. We are facing many difficulties. We request the government to make some arrangements for us. […] People are stuck on both sides. We are confused and don’t know where to go," he said.
The National Emergency Operations Centre in Pakistan issued a nationwide alert last Tuesday, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms from March 31 to April 5, with a risk of flooding in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, rain-related incidents in northwestern Pakistan have killed at least 25 people and injured 77 others since March 25. Authorities have urged faster relief efforts as more heavy rain is expected through early April.
