4:45Now PlayingRussia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is a direct consequence of US and Israeli military strikes on Iran, and called for an immediate halt to hostilities to restore normal maritime traffic. Speaking in Moscow, Lavrov cited remarks by Donald Trump suggesting shipping would resume after the conflict ends, but argued that pressure should not be placed on Tehran. He described the escalation as “unprovoked aggression” and warned that a proposed UN resolution could undermine diplomatic efforts or justify further action against Iran. China and Egypt have also called for de-escalation, as the conflict enters its fifth week following strikes launched on February 28 and subsequent retaliatory attacks across the region.
