In a series of posts on 'X', Jaishankar said he received a call from his Iranian counterpart and discussed the “present situation,” particularly developments around the Strait of Hormuz. Jaishankar also held separate conversations with Qatar’s Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and UAE’s Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the evolving crisis in West Asia.
This marks the sixth interaction between Jaishankar and Araghchi since the conflict began. The two leaders had last spoken on March 21, underscoring ongoing diplomatic engagement amid rising tensions. The outreach comes as Donald Trump said there is a “good chance” of reaching a deal with Iran, expressing hope that an agreement could be finalised soon. However, he warned that failure to reach a deal could trigger aggressive US action, including strikes on Iranian infrastructure and potential moves targeting oil assets.
