9:09Now PlayingUK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch accused PM Sir Keir Starmer of sending a 'known security risk' - ie former ambassador Peter Mandelson - to the US, as the row over the diplomat's vetting and ties to paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein threatened to bring down the government. "The Prime Minister sent a known security risk to Washington to a position where he would see our most important allies' top secret intelligence," she said.
Starmer was jeered by lawmakers on Monday after saying people might find his side of the row 'unbelievable'. He fired Robbins last Thursday, saying he had committed an 'unforgivable error' in not telling him about any vetting issues - while Robbins has insisted that wasn't how vetting worked. The Mandelson row returned following the publications of many more documents from the 'Epstein files' by the US Department of Justice. The former ambassador has strongly denied wrongdoing. Starmer claimed he had been lied to by Mandelson about the relationship and has repeatedly said he wouldn't have appointed him had he known the full story.
