3:45Now PlayingA senior commander of the proscribed terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, Sheikh Yusuf Afridi, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in what authorities suspect to be a targeted assassination. According to initial reports, armed attackers opened fire at close range, leaving Afridi with multiple bullet injuries and no chance of escape.
Afridi was considered a key figure in LeT’s regional structure and was believed to be closely associated with its chief Hafiz Saeed. Security officials said he was involved in recruitment and coordination of the outfit’s activities in the region. His killing adds to a series of similar attacks on individuals linked to militant networks in Pakistan in recent years. Several senior figures associated with banned groups have been targeted in incidents across multiple cities, including Lahore and Karachi.
