3:34Now PlayingAs the U.S. blockade of Iran enters its 51st day, Iraq’s Umm Qasr port has emerged as a key alternative trade hub for Iran-bound cargo. Facing disruptions and rising costs at Oman’s Khasab port, traders are increasingly routing goods from UAE ports through Iraq before moving them into Iran by land and water.
Cars and other cargo are being transported on non-Iranian vessels to Umm Qasr, then shipped through Basra, the Shalamcheh border crossing, and the Shatt al-Arab waterway. While the route helps sustain Iranian imports, security risks and regional tensions continue to challenge these alternative trade corridors.
