3:59Now PlayingCalifornia Governor Gavin Newsom has accused the Trump-run Justice Department of launching a politically motivated investigation targeting him and his wife, claiming federal agents have reached out to individuals connected to his circle as part of what he calls a “targeted political operation” linked to his potential 2028 presidential run. Newsom alleges the probe reflects a broader pattern of political weaponisation, while the Justice Department denies White House involvement and says the inquiry originated in a California district office based on whistleblower information. The investigation is reportedly focused on tax-related activity and financial scrutiny of associates, as political tensions between Newsom and Trump continue to escalate.
