3:23Now PlayingAbbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, published a message on the social media platform X, comparing Ali Khamenei, who was killed during joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran, to Hussein, the third Imam of Shias, and naming him the “Lord and Master of the Martyrs of the Islamic Revolution.”
In the message, Araghchi wrote that just as Hussein “sacrificed everything he had” during the event of Karbala, the Islamic Republic “will neither forget nor forgive” the killing of Ali Khamenei. These remarks come as part of ongoing efforts by Islamic Republic officials to present an ideological narrative surrounding the death of the regime’s former leader.
Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 during joint military strikes by the United States and Israel targeting Tehran. Hours after American and Israeli officials released the news, the official state media of the Islamic Republic also confirmed his death and declared 40 days of public mourning.
