In Washington, D.C., the iconic Independence Day Parade has been canceled, while several other Fourth of July events across the country have either been postponed, scaled back, or modified as authorities warn of life-threatening temperatures.
In Washington, activities at the Great American State Fair were temporarily suspended during the hottest part of the day before reopening later in the evening with additional cooling stations and medical support. Authorities have also increased access to water, misting areas and emergency medical services for visitors attending remaining celebrations.
