4:11Now PlayingPalestinians in Muwasi displacement camp in southern Gaza shelter inside their worn-out tents that offer them and their children little protection against the searing sun. The stifling July heat further deepens their sufferings. Palestinians have to resort to ancient methods to keep cool amid blistering heat, as Israeli airstrikes destroyed large parts of Gaza’s energy infrastructure.
Parents soak their children with water while they are dressed, use towels to wipe away their sweat, and fan their restless children with cardboard slabs. Ola Abu Libda is pregnant and suffers lack of privacy in her displacement tent. During the day, she and her children need to stay properly dressed, as they live very close to their displaced neighbors. The heatwave is keeping her awake at night. Elsewhere in Muwasi, Nidaa Abu Shuaira says that her children complain all night from the heat, but she is helpless. Nidaa and her husband, Ahmed, have to fan their children and give them regular showers inside a plastic wash tub.
