Jul 7, 20263:57Now PlayingNATO has officially selected Sweden’s Saab GlobalEye airborne surveillance system to replace its aging fleet of U.S.-built AWACS aircraft, marking one of the alliance’s biggest defence procurement shifts in decades. The alliance will begin negotiations for up to 10 GlobalEye aircraft, replacing Boeing E-3 Sentry planes that have served since the 1980s. The decision follows the collapse of the planned Boeing E-7 Wedgetail replacement and comes as NATO seeks more advanced multi-domain surveillance capabilities. The move is also seen as a boost for Europe’s defence industry amid growing calls for greater strategic autonomy within the alliance.
