The refinery, located about 2,500 kilometres from Ukraine and responsible for roughly 12% of Russia's refining capacity, was reportedly hit despite Moscow claiming most drones were intercepted. The strike followed a deadly Russian missile barrage on Kyiv that killed at least 22 people. Repeated Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure have intensified fuel shortages, triggered gasoline rationing, and caused long queues at petrol stations, highlighting the growing impact of the war deep inside Russian territory.
