10:51:28Now PlayingANKARA, Turkey — U.S. President Donald Trump has officially declared that the interim ceasefire agreement with Iran is "over" during a fiery press conference on the sidelines of the 36th NATO Summit at the Beştepe Presidential Complex in Ankara. The collapse of the Islamabad Memorandum comes after a dramatic overnight escalation in West Asia. The U.S. military launched more than 80 airstrikes against Iranian military sites around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, retaliating for Iranian attacks on three commercial tankers. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted 85 U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait with retaliatory strikes. Sitting alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump labeled Iran's leadership as "scum" and "sick people," stating that further diplomatic engagement is a "waste of time." The sudden resumption of hostilities has triggered a massive 5% spike in global Brent crude oil prices, which surged past $78 per barrel. While NATO Chief Rutte backed the U.S. strikes as "absolutely necessary," Trump used the summit to lash out at European allies over defense spending, demanding they hit a 5% GDP target, slamming Spain as a "terrible partner," and repeating his controversial demand for Greenland. Meanwhile, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Washington of violating the truce by reinstating oil export sanctions, warning that Tehran "will not fold."
