as posted by the channelThe latest heatwave in France has brought fresh misery to hundreds of migrants camped beneath elevated Metro Line 2 near Paris' Stalingrad station. Many came to Europe seeking work, safety and stability. Instead, they found tents, uncertain legal futures and another struggle for water and shelter.
Footage shows migrants setting up tents and resting beneath the viaduct. Police speak to people around the camp, while cleaning crews move through the site and hose down the pavement. A June report estimated that around 850 people were living at the camp, many from Afghanistan, Eritrea and South Sudan. Medecins du Monde estimated that 60 percent were asylum seekers, 20 percent held refugee status and 20 percent were living without papers. France received about 26,000 first-time asylum applications in the first three months of 2026, while 15,210 people were granted protection at the first stage of the process.
