According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, the IRGC claimed the vessels were attempting to transit through the strategic waterway under what it described as "US coercion." The IRGC issued a strong warning, saying the Strait of Hormuz is no longer safe for the transport of chemical fertilizer or even a single drop of oil and gas. The IRGC's claims come after an earlier maritime alert from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. The UKMTO reported that a vessel was on fire approximately eight nautical miles northwest of Kumzar, Oman.
