France Burns as 1,000 Firefighters Battle Monster Blaze Fueled by Relentless Heatwave

A fast-moving wildfire tore through southern France's Var department, forcing nearly 400 residents to evacuate as firefighters battled to contain flames that had spread across approximately 2,550 hectares. The blaze, which began near Ponteves and advanced toward several nearby communities including Cotignac and Sillans-la-Cascade, prompted the deployment of nearly 1,000 firefighters and water-bombing aircraft. Six people suffered minor smoke inhalation, while no fatalities were reported. Authorities said prolonged dry conditions and extreme forest fire risk warnings had intensified the threat as emergency crews worked to prevent further spread.
