3:07Now PlayingAt least 16 Indian nationals, including 10 seafarers, have lost their lives in West Asia since the outbreak of the regional conflict earlier this year, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed Parliament on Thursday.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh shared the details in a written reply to CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas, who had sought information on the number of Indians killed, injured, stranded or evacuated amid the ongoing hostilities. According to the MEA, the deaths were reported from Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Eight Indian nationals died in Oman, four in the UAE, two in Kuwait, and one each in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The ministry said Indian embassies and consulates worked closely with local authorities to assist affected families by arranging repatriation of mortal remains, facilitating medical treatment for the injured, coordinating with hospitals and helping families with travel and communication.
