As the teleprompter stopped working, Carney smiled and joked about the situation, saying, “I would like to inform you that the teleprompter has ceased to function. Unlike a certain world leader, I do not view this as a conspiracy." His remark drew laughter from the audience in Toronto. Carney’s comment appeared to refer to Trump’s reaction to teleprompter and escalator issues during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly last year. Trump had called for an investigation, alleging that the problems were part of what he described as “sabotage".
