8:08Now PlayingPakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a fresh warning to India over the Indus Waters Treaty, calling Pakistan’s water rights a “red line” and warning of a direct response if its water supply is affected.
The remarks come after India placed the 1960 treaty in abeyance following the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. The World Bank-brokered treaty governs the sharing of six major rivers, granting India rights over the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej, while Pakistan has rights over the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab.
Pakistan maintains that the treaty remains legally valid, while India has suspended several treaty-related mechanisms, including the exchange of river water data. The dispute has added another major flashpoint to already tense India-Pakistan relations.
