9:02Now PlayingA major tunnel tragedy has struck Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district after water and debris suddenly flooded an under-construction tunnel linked to the 444-MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydroelectric project. At least seven workers were declared dead, while several others were injured and taken to hospitals. Rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP were deployed as heavy water inflow and debris made operations extremely difficult. Authorities said workers were trapped underground after the sudden flooding, with rescue efforts continuing to locate and evacuate those still missing. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is monitoring the operation and has ordered agencies to prioritize every trapped worker.
