8:00Now PlayingHundreds of Tibetan exiles organised a protest in New Delhi on Thursday against China’s ethnic unity and progress law that has been widely criticized as a way to further erode the rights of Tibetans and other minorities as authorities cement a push toward assimilation.
Chanting anti-China slogans, many Tibetans shaved their heads as a symbolic gesture of protest. Under the new ethnic unity law, acts deemed to incite division among China’s 56 ethnic groups are prohibited, and schools, families and other institutions are expected to foster patriotism, national unity and a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
