8:03Now PlayingChina has rejected calls for stronger economic pressure on Iran, saying sanctions and military pressure cannot resolve disputes. Responding to questions about possible tougher U.S. sanctions and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s appeal for Chinese cooperation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing opposes unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law or UN Security Council authorization. China urged all parties to avoid measures that could worsen tensions and instead pursue dialogue and consultation. Beijing has consistently argued that military action, sanctions and maximum-pressure policies risk escalating the situation rather than resolving it. China called for political and diplomatic efforts to address differences and disputes.
