8:14Now PlayingPakistan Army chief Asim Munir will visit Tehran on Monday for talks on bilateral and regional issues, Iran's foreign ministry said on Sunday. The visit comes as Islamabad continues its efforts to revive its mediation role in the stalled US-Iran talks.
An interim peace agreement, which Pakistan signed as a guarantor, fell apart last month after tensions in West Asia rose again and the US and Iran resumed military strikes. Pakistan has not commented so far on Munir's visit to Tehran. Iran foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters that Field Marshal Munir will be accompanied by a delegation for high-level talks with the Iranian leadership. He said the visit is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and continuing Pakistan's efforts to help promote peace and security in the region.
