8:07Now PlayingNational Security Advisor Ajit Doval is travelling to Beijing for the 25th round of India-China Special Representatives talks, with the timing carrying significance beyond the long-running boundary dispute. The discussions come weeks before the BRICS summit in New Delhi, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India, potentially for his first trip to the country in seven years and a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Xi’s participation has not yet been officially confirmed yet. Doval’s meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi therefore comes as both sides try to consolidate the easing of tensions that followed the 2024 disengagement process. But New Delhi’s priority is unlikely to be another round of broad assurances. The immediate focus is on converting the relative calm along the Line of Actual Control into a more durable framework for managing the border and rebuilding the wider relationship.
