"The world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century at an accelerated pace, while countercurrents of hegemonism, unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise," he said. "Yet the overwhelming majority of countries do not endorse power politics, do not want conflict and confrontation, and do not wish to remain closed off and backward." "Rather, they hope to have an equal place on the world stage through their own development and international cooperation. In recent years, the Global South has grown significantly stronger, driving profound adjustments in the balance of international forces. The trend toward a multipolar world is irreversible," he added.
The Shanghai Co-operation Organisation summit takes place in Bishkek from August 31 to September 1. It is themed '25 Years of the SCO: Working Together for Lasting Peace, Development and Prosperity'.
