8:10Now PlayingBrent crude has surged as the US-Iran war threatens the world’s most important oil chokepoint. After fresh US strikes on Iran, Brent jumped 4.6% on September 1, settling at $94.65 a barrel — its highest level in weeks. WTI also climbed 5.2% to $90.22. The key risk is the Strait of Hormuz, through which around one-fifth of global oil flows in normal conditions. With commercial shipping severely disrupted and tankers facing attacks, traders are pricing in a growing geopolitical risk premium. If the disruption persists, tighter crude supplies could push Brent even higher, raising fuel costs and global inflation.
