3:38Now PlayingA suicide note purportedly written by Jeffrey Epstein and sealed for years inside a criminal court file has been made public, offering the first direct window into the financier's state of mind before his death in a New York federal jail in August 2019. The note, released on Wednesday by Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the Federal District Court in White Plains, New York, was written on a piece of yellow legal pad paper and discovered by Epstein's then-cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione.
The note opens with a defiant declaration about the federal investigation against him. "They investigated me for month, FOUND NOTHING!!!" it reads, before referencing charges that stretched back years. It then takes a darkly philosophical turn. "It is a treat to be able to choose one's time to say goodbye," the note states.
