3:46Now PlayingSlovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticised European Union energy policy delivering remarks in Bratislava on Sunday, as he warned against plans to phase out Russian gas imports.
"According to the decision of the European Commission, Russian gas will end. We have filed a complaint against it. Whether the relevant court will decide by 2027, I do not know, but our official stance is, let's diversify the supply options for all fuels, but also keep open the possibility when it comes to Russian oil and gas, what's the matter with that?" Fico said.
It comes as the European Union continues to pursue its 'RE Power EU' strategy, aimed at ending reliance on Russian fossil fuels following the escalation of the war in Ukraine in 2022. The ban will cut liquefied natural gas by the end of 2026 and pipeline gas by 30 September 2027, with a potential short extension. Member states must also show how they will replace those supplies.
