3:34Now PlayingAround 300 protesters gathered outside the European Commission offices in Barcelona on Tuesday to demand the release of Saif Abukeshek and Thiago Ávila, members of the Freedom Flotilla detained by Israeli authorities following an intercepted maritime mission. Visuals from the demonstration at La Pedrera show protesters holding banners and chanting slogans calling for the activists’ release, with signs reading 'Free Thiago and Saif' and 'Let’s bring down imperialism and Zionism.' Palestinian flags were also visible throughout the rally.
During the rally, participants accused European institutions of failing to intervene, while demanding accountability over what they described as violations of international law. The rally comes after Israel intercepted the Global Sumud flotilla, a multinational civilian mission that set sail from Barcelona in April carrying humanitarian aid amid the ongoing blockade on Gaza. Israeli naval forces stopped the convoy in international waters near Crete, detaining around 175 activists from more than 20 vessels, according to officials.
