May 3, 20263:15Now PlayingIsrael has granted final approval to a major defence procurement plan to acquire two new combat squadrons of advanced F-35 and F-15IA fighter jets from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, in a deal valued at tens of billions of dollars, the defence ministry said on Sunday. The agreement, cleared by Israel’s Ministerial Committee on Procurement, marks the first phase of a broader military modernisation programme aimed at strengthening preparedness for what officials describe as a challenging decade ahead for national security.
Under the plan, Israel will procure a fourth F-35 squadron from Lockheed Martin and a second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing. In December, Boeing secured an $8.6 billion contract covering 25 F-15IAs, with an option for 25 more aircraft.
