Car dealers are one of the five most common professions among the top 0.1% of American earners. They spend millions every year to influence politicians and lobby for favorable laws around the country.
Now the Federal Trade Commission is proposing new rules to stop them from ripping you off.
Under a new FTC proposal, car dealers would be required to provide buyers with a true "offering price" — the actual full price that a buyer would pay — and to list an out-the-door cash price that they would honor for any specific vehicle or financing term they advertise.
The FTC rule would also ban junk fees and bait-and-switch false advertising for cars.
