Simon is an Australian geneticist, who was serving as Mormon bishop when he discovered that Indigenous Americans are not descended from the Israelites, as the Book of Mormon teaches, but, rather, DNA indicates their ancestors crossed the Bering Straight from Asia 16,000 years ago. This discovery caused Simon to lose his faith, which he recounted in his book, "Losing a Lost Tribe."
