Following the GOP’s success in 2016, well-funded right-wing groups are taking a more organized push to training young internet-savvy followers in the art of meme-making, and in doing so are enlisting an army for the coming 2020 meme war. One thing is becoming clear: the left, which has never taken these bits of jokey viral content very seriously, is trailing behind its conservative competitors badly.
In this video, Mencimer breaks down one such conservative hit, known as the ‘Based Lindsey Graham’/‘Lindsey Graham 2.0’ meme, which went viral in right-wing circles last October during the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearings, to see how its done, and give you a preview of what’s in store for the 2020 campaign.
